Are hot dogs that have been frozen for 5 months safe to eat?!

Question: Are hot dogs that have been frozen for 5 months safe to eat!?
I found a package of hot dogs in my freezer that I must have put there around the time I moved into my place in January!. The sell-by date is February 2008, but since they have been frozen this whole time is it safe to eat them!? They're not discolored!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
As long as your freezer has been running continuously and set at a low enough temperature and you froze them immediately after purchase and you cook them thoroughly as soon as they are defrosted than I would say, yes, they will be fine!. Generally anything you freeze is suspended in its decay cycle at the stage you froze it!. however once unfrozen ice crystals that formed inside it upon freezing will cause the product to deform, so if you do not eat immediately it will quickly go bad!.

This advice is not guaranteed, you eat at your own risk!. Personally I would go for it, but this is my opinion only!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

YES!
They've been frozen, they haven't gone 'bad' or anything!
we freeze ours sometimes (because we lose them under 'stuff') are a year old, they're still edible if frozen properly!.
Now, if they've changed color, are split or the package is open or torn, or they smell un-hotdoggy, don't eat them!. And since they aqren't discolored, they should be fine!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think there would be any problem at all!. We've had hot dogs in our freezer for probably longer than that!. The major thing about frozen stuff is that after a while some of it (depending on whether it's meat or bread or cheese or!.!.!.) just loses flavor or can get ice crystals in it (like ice cream, for instance)!. Then it can taste "old" but is still okay to eat; you probably wouldn't want to, though, because of the flavor (or lack thereof)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I guess they should be!. I get naturally cased weiners from the butcher shop and I freeze them because we get meat in bulk!. They are fine because they are in freezer paper!. If they are cheap oscar meyer hot dogs I would throw them away!. They aren't bad for you, they are just bad!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes they are fine to eat!. If they have been frozen since before then!. The sell by date refers to when it has to be off the shelf in a refrigerator in a store!. You should be fine, enjoy the hot dogs!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If they were frozen then they are safe to eat!. The expiration Date applies if they were placed in the refridgerator!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Depends on how fast your freezer freezes them, and what degrees the freezer is set at!. If they arent discolored!.!.!.they are prob!. ok!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I wouldn't eat them!.!.!. but if you freeze them then yes they are safe to eat!. The expiration date applies if you kept them in the refrigerator!.

Hope I helped!Www@FoodAQ@Com
