My mom is staying with me for 2mths and I don't know how to make good coffee. Its either too strong or bitter!
I go by the instructions on the bag but it never comes out right!. Like now, I tried to make 6 cups of Dunkin Donuts Hazelnut and I put 5 tablespoons and it's so bitter!. The package actually suggested 1 and a half tablespoons per 6oz of water!
Question: Any pointers or tips on how to make good coffee!? Mom doesn't know how to make coffee either, lol!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If your coffee is coming out too bitter then it sounds like you need to cut down on the amount of coffee you add!. It all depends on personal taste!. The measurements on the bags are just guidelines!. You have to try out different measurements to see which one you like and then remember it for your future pots of coffee!. also, a normal coffee cup is not 6 oz so measure your cup to see how much water you need for how many cups you want!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I am on the wrong person to ask, but I would think that you will be on the right board to ask!. First I don't drink coffee, so why should I even make it when I don't drink it!. Maybe you 2 should go to ether a coffee shop, or a restuarant, Dunkin Doughnuts, or even to Starbucks, and you don't have to worry about making it, plus you might be inexpeirenced with making coffee, but I bet a lot of people that hang around on this board, does drink coffee, and make thier own, and be able to tell you, or give you tips to making good coffee!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I would use about a half a scoop per cup!. Try a fresh ground French Roast (fine ground) or a Colombian (fine ground) and use 4 heavy scoops for a 10 cup pot, not to heaping, you said 6 cups, the I would only use 2 heavy scoops!. Ditch the flavored coffee, and use the flavored creamers instead!. I like the Sumatran or Italian, nice and bold, smooth and rich, not bitter!. get good coffee, like the $5-$8 a bag stuff and grind it at the store!. Big difference!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I don't drink flavored coffee, but when i make reg coffee, i always put a good size pinch of salt on top of the coffee (about half the size of a dime)!.
Just for reference, a decent cup of coffee for me is 3 heaping teaspoon (i use a regular spoon not a measuring spoon) for 4 cup of water, i have a 4c maker!.
I would guess for 6 cups you would only need 5 tsp!. not 5 Tbsp, might be why it was so bitter!. After you make one with 5 tsp!. if its still too bitter try the pinch of salt!. Some coffees are just bitter by nature and if i remember correctly hazelnuts are!.
Play around with it until you get the right one for you!.
