What are those soft, semi sweet steamed rolls made in chnatown?!


Question: What are those soft, semi sweet steamed rolls made in chnatown!?
once when i was a kid we went to chinatown, san fransisco, and had these rolls in a shop!. they had soft, semi sweet dough with a meat "paste" that was red or grey depending on what meat!. they were steamed so they werent crunchy and they didnt have any crust!. just soft, sweet and round!. can anybody tell me what they are called!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

those are called "char sui bao"
char sui = Chinese Style bbq pork (reddish)
bao = bun

The grayish ones are probably Chicken buns
Gai Bao
Gai = Chicken
Bao = Bun

I personally like the baked ones!.

yes Char Siu Bao, for the pork ones, but they also have the red bean paste variety too!. Red Bean Bao or steamed red bean buns, from the chinese shops!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
