I'm making brownies and realized I don't have shortening!. Can I use Canola oil instead!? If so, how much should I use!? The recipe requires 1/2 cup shortening!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
If the recipe calls for a solid shortening you can not replace it with a liquid!. If you do not have shortening or Butter use applesauce as a replacement or possibly yogurt!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

usually yes but it depends!. if you must cream the sugar with the solid fat, an oil will not do!. if you're using a mix, an oil is perfect!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you can use margarine or applesauce, the canola oil would probably work, but the brownies might be more moistWww@FoodAQ@Com

many brownie recipies use oil, but since baking is formulas, I would google another recipe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

margarine is better!. same ratios!. you could use oil!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yea you can BUT
expect a mess!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
