Sushi is commonly mistaken as meaning 'raw fish', where it actually means 'rice cakes'!. You don't need fish to make sushi, there are other toppings!. There is a Japanese word for just raw fish, which you dip in boiling water, but I forget the term!. They are mostly pretty flavorless, which is why you eat them with wasabi (like mustard) and pickled ginger, which are a really nice combination!. They look better than to eat, and obviously are trendy food, nice for treating your partner with!. Salmon sushi, the classic, is always good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I tried sushi for the first time at Morimoto's (the Iron chef!) in Philadelphia!. I was curious and it's a really high end place so I figured why not!? For a first timer, I recomend getting a piece with cooked stuff, like a shrimp one, which is pretty nice!. It's just a glob of rice with a cooked, butterflied shrimp on top!. You dip it in soy with a little wasabi and some pickled ginger it it is quite yummy!. Then, I tried some with raw salmon and also a spicy tuna, which was of course raw tuna!. You know what!? It didn't taste bad, persay---once or twice the texture kinda got to me and I started screaiming in my mind, "I'm eating raw fish! This is raw fish!"---luckily I was able to get through it without gagging!. i would try it again, but I wasn't overjoyed with it!. However, I have been craving another one of the shrimp ones!. Cooked seafood=yummy:-)Www@FoodAQ@Com
I too am just now beginning to try the whole sushi//fish thing out, I know for a fact not all sushi is raw, a lot of it is steamed!. I am not a big seafood peson at all but my husband convinced me to try two types of sushi that he thought I'd like and I have to say I am hooked!. Try these out first:
*California roll
*Philly (philidelphia) roll
The California roll has steamed crab, avacado and cucumber and is not "fishy" at all and I love it with a bit of soy sauce
The philly rolls are my favorite and it's salmon, cream cheese and cucumber
I'd go with a more mellow fish like tuna, crab or salmon to begin with, from someone who's not a fish fanatic those are the best bet, good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Plus sushi is kinda cheap!. 5 bucks for 8 rolls, not bad!Www@FoodAQ@Com
That's like asking "Is ice-cream good!?" or "Is broccoli good!?" Taste is not universal! Just looking at the answers here already, you can see - some people love it, some people hate it!.
As for me, I love-hate it!. I found it's actually quite good (once I was forced to try it), but it leaves a MAJOR aftertaste!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sushi is rice prepared with vinegar!. Contrary to popular belief it is NOT raw fish-- that is only a popular ingredient used with it!. Raw fish is sashimi!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
