Why am I not dead or poisoned yet?!
I was just reading this other question about tuna being left out, and it made me wonder!.!.!.
Well, my family is always forgetting to refrigerate food, but we still eat the food!. It could be left out for hours, and my parents would still think it's safe!. For example, if someone left the milk out at 8am, I'd come home at 4pm and the milk would be left out!. I'd call my mom & ask her what to do with it and she'd just tell me to re-refrigerate it! So how come none of us are poisoned or dead yet!?
This happens all the time in my house!
Like bottled ketchup!.
Or pizza!.
Even fish!. (cooked, and foil or plastic wrap covering it)!.
Or chicken!. (cooked, covered in foil)!.
And my friends said I would get really sick if I ate an uncooked sausage/hot dog thing!. I've done that bunches of times, and never gotten sick!.!.!.
Or when I pack food for lunch, the food must be left out in my bag for at least 4 hours before lunch time!. Or 8 if I eat it later at home!.!.!.
Is this normal!? Why am I not sick!?!Www@FoodAQ@Com

When I was growing up it was pretty much the same way in my house!. The thing with milk is if it's left out and refrigerated again and again it will get sour!. But, you wouldn't drink it past the point it would make you sick cause it would smell too bad!. The ketchup doesn't ever have to be refrigerated because it has so much vinegar in it!. The ones I'd be a little careful of if the meat or mayo!. But just yesterday I cooked some chicken for dinner, and my husband came home from work 3 hours later and I forgot to put it away and I was asleep on the couch!. So, I got up put it away and had it for lunch today!. I'm fine! Food born bacteria is harder to get to grow than most people think!. Like leftovers don't always go bad in 2 days! I'll eat left overs 5-6 days later and I've never gotten sick!Www@FoodAQ@Com
OMG! Don't take this lightly! Start refrigertating your food! The reason your not dead is because your liver is absorbing the bad shiz!. So, basically your killing your liver which will shorten your life span!. XDWww@FoodAQ@Com
maybe you're immune to food poisoning!. if anyone ate that food, who wasn't used to it, would probably get really sick!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I'm sorry but oh my gosh, that is digusting!. You are gross!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Mayo= high acidic and DOES NOT go bad out of the refrigerator( same with Ketchup)!.
Why everyone thinks mayo needs refrigeration is beyond me!. Even the Board of Health will tell you that it really doesn't!.
We also always left food out for 6-8 hours and more and we're still alive and well!.
However, because of all the mishandled foods which caused some serious cases of food poisoning in many restaurants and restaurant chains, the FDA drew up a whats called HACCP which is an outline of food temps and safety standards!.
Courses are given to food handler ( such as "Steritech") which makes it sound like everything you eat after 2 hours at room temp is going to kill you because they can't guarantee it any further then that!.
It's called covering ones butt ( that is why you'll always see refrigerate after opening on all products, including ones that don't need to be)!.
However, although we think alot alike, they'll always be that chance that some day you will get a case of food poisoning!.
In that case, you'll be glad you have a strong immune system!.
It's no joke!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Rarely will a foodborne illness cause death!.!.!.!.that's why you are still alive!.
Bacteria grows when most foods are left in the "danger zone" (between 40-140 degrees) for a period of time!. It then can cause a foodborne illness when consumed!.
Approximately 72% of all stomach problems (vomiting, etc) are not a "stomach virus" or whatever we accuse is the problem!.!.!.!.but caused by bacteria and foodborne illnesses!.
So!.!.!.!.!.!.!.they can make you sick!. Sometimes a lot!.!.!.!.sometimes a little!.!.!.!.but rarely will it kill you!. (but it is possible, depending on the type of bacteria)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Food poisoning occurs when bacteria grow in the food and you eat it!. The bacteria then start to grow in you and they release bacterial endotoxins that make you sick!. Not all bacteria do this, only about 10% will actually make you sick!.
The reason why food being left out is a risk for bacteria is that most bacteria that make you sick grow fastest at body (or room) temperature!. Chilling food doesn't kill bacteria, it just slows their growth!. If you leave food out, the bacteria grow faster!. You need a certain amount of bacteria to make you sick!. The more that grow, the more likely you are to get sick!. So leaving food at room temp for 2 hours, might give you the same bacterial growth as leaving it in the fridge for a week!.
So, when you leave food out there are many reasons why you don't get sick!.
1!. There is no bacteria in the food!. You may have an especially sterile house
2!. You don't leave them out long enough to make you sick
3!. If you reheat the food, you will kill the bacteria, and hence not get sick!.
4!. You may have built up a tolerance
5!. Some foods, like milk, go nasty before they will actually make you sick!. For example, it would smell and go lumpy before it would have enough bacteria to make you sick, so you wouldn't eat it anyway!. Bread is the same, you wouldn't eat stale bread!.
Leaving out the food only increases the risk you will get sick, it doesn't guarantee it!.
Oh, and our sauce lives in the pantry too!. I say that doesn't need to be refrigerated!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
