How reliable is the Five second rule?!
is it really safe!? Do you use it!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
See the Mythbusters!. They did a study on this!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It's safe to eat it even after the five seconds are up!. Bacteria needs more time to taint food that has fallen on the floor!. It's safe to eat dropped food for up to 30 secs!. Any longer than 30 secs though I wouldn't trust it for wet food, but you can wait even longer for dry food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I use it! But only if its a "dry" food!.
If you took a bite out of a peach, and then dropped the bitten side on the ground, bacteria can get on it faster than the 5 second rule!. also, bacteria tend to form in places that don't get cleaned often, or if it's really dark in that area!.
Happy eating! :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you were a germ and didn't know how to read, would you be likely to follow a rule you had never read!?
Seriously, the five-second rule is used in a joking way!. It is not meant to be taken seriously!. At least nobody has had time to step on the food that fell to the ground!.
In any case if we try to live a germ-free existence, we are most likely to get really sick, so I wouldn't really worry about it!. As long as the food doesn't pick up any weird tastes!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I read a study that said it was generally pretty reliable!. Of course there are variables, as the first answerer mentioned!.
The more contact area there is (the softer the food dropped) and the dirtier the surface is, the less it applies!.
So if you drop a blob of yogurt into a pile of dog poop, better not eat it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
