Answers:
Salmon cans are tapered to conserve space!. When empty, the tapered cans are nested like paper coffee cups!. Tapered cans require much less space to store and ship than cans that cannot be nested!. Space is an important issue when shipping salmon cans to the remote locations of the salmon canneries, particularly in Alaska where everything must be shipped in by bargeWww@FoodAQ@Com
How strange! I never noticed that, but just measured mine:) It was 3" diameter on top and 2-1/2" diameter on the bottom! The bottom doesn't have a seam though, and looks like it's actually formed from the same piece as the sides, so maybe that has something to do with it!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
The big end is to allow it to swish its tail around!. swish!
