Cheddar and American cheese both have yellow food coloring!. Cheese comes in various colors: white, yellow, light brown, bluish!. It depends on what kind it is!. Every type of cheese is made differently, thus different coloring!.

Not all cheese is yellow!. Some is yellow naturally from the milk and cream that it contains!. Some is white from the high cream content!. Some is orange (because it comes from Gloucestershire) Some cheese ir green in parts (some cheese is green all over)!. Some cheese is blue because that is the way the Danish people like it!. Apart from the suggestion that food colouring is to blame which I doubt is generally true, Cheese is the colour it is because of type of milk, cream, herbs, etc used in its production!.
Mature cheese is another thing entirely!. In just the same way as a baby grows into a toddler and then a small child, followed by a teenager and eventually an adult and becomes mature!. So it is with cheese it happens to us all in time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, cheddar does not contain food colouring!. It is a side-effect of the cheese making process!. With cheddar, the cheese is matured wrapped in linen and the bacteria discolour it!.

I can't remember all of it, but I took the "factory tour" in cheddar (somerset)!. Aparently it goes back hundreds of years to when they used to stick it in the caves there to mature!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not that many traditional cheeses are yellow! Unless colouring has been added!. On the other hand, real cream (not anything that has undergone "factory production") is also yellowish!. It is the fat content which gives this hue!. The longer the cheese is "matured", the more intense the colour, because the liquid is evaporating and the cheese "aging"!. Most cheeses that are yellow have been colored, some other yellow cheeses turn yellow from the coat of wax they are covered with!. How strong cheese is depends on how long it ferment!. For example: sharp cheddar cheese ferments for up to 16 years!. Hope I helped!

Natural Coloring is added to some cheeses from the Annato seed!. That is where the yellow comes from!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
