My local bar has decided to stop selling bar snack i.e. crisps, peanuts, pork scratchings, etc, etc?!
I asked the p/t barmaid why this was she didn't know(after all she is only an university degree student!) so she ask the bar supervisor who said that it was to encourage bar food sales and offered to sell me chips!.!.!.
Is it just me or does anyone else think this is a bit of bad business and will result in even more losses on top of what he is losing because of the smoking ban!.
This bar is not a manky little local it is well frequented by A list gliteratti and media types from my area!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They obviously don't want the crisps and peanuts brigade in there - especially if they get all those "A" list customers already!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Altough a lot of bars have gotten away from offering the freebies, some of the more popular trends has become to offer more spicier/hot snacks!. Tell that bar supervision that they should offer something completely different from "the menu" as a free snack, but have it be something with little kick!. Chips and Salsa, flaming hot cheeto's, wasabi peanuts ect!. Offering these spicy hot snack will help increase drink sales, which is where alot of places make most their money from!. The bar is used to run, offer free chips and salsa (and the salsa only came 2 ways, hot and hotter, and we saw an average check average increase 17% after that!. You have to reason with business owners in a language they understand, $$$Www@FoodAQ@Com
Sounds to me as if the landlord is getting a bit too greedy!.I'd find myself a different local if I were you!If enough of the regulars leave, the landlord may get the message and re-instate the snacks, then you can go back!
A pub needs it's regulars and needs to encourage them, which means looking after them!!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

It will not improve their business that's for sure!. One of the theories behind bar snacks, which are usually salty, is to get customers to drink more!. The profit ratio is more for drinks than for meals!. Eliminating the snacks and thus selling less booze will eventually cut into their profit!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
they would never try that in my local - would create a riot
It is crap business!.!.!.!.!.!. you could fill your coat up with sweets and deal them in the bogs dealer style!.!.!.!.!. could double your money
not everyone wants bar food - so it is inconsiderate!.!.!. sometimes you just NEED a packet of crisps with that pint!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes it is!! a lot of people have had a meal before they go out, so you just need typical bar snacks, not a plate of chips, i think thats a really bad move and they will regret it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
the license for food sales has went up to about a thousand pounds the amount of profit made doesnt justify the cost good old liberals btw the food takeaway drink license has went up the same soalot arenotbeing renewedWww@FoodAQ@Com
That is absolutely awful,a pub with no crisps, peanuts etc!.Defenitley bad business,i don't understand some people!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Definitely bad business, the only reason to sell crisps, pork scratchings etc is to increase wet sales, salt=thirst! that's why even when they don't sell them they put peanuts and snacks on the bar!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Change boozers - go somewhere that will let you have a pint and a packet of pork scratchings!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Here in Canada our liqour laws require them to offer bar snack and other foods for them to have a "Drinks Licence", and like some have said it is a profit question, getting rid of the cheaper snack infavour of the higher priced bar foods!. We have that to a snack line like chip/crisps/ cheese sticks, pretzels, pork rinds and soem other foods like pizzas, sandwiches and other hot snacks!.
In the U!.S they are allowed to provide them for free, most U,S bars have nuts, pretzels sticks or ohehr free items there so you will drink, it is illegal here in Ontario to offer free food even at "Happy Hour", to entice people to overendulge!.
I must say, you are freaking the Yanks out when you mention "Pork Scratchings", they must really be scratching there heads thinking, "what part of the pig does the scratching come from!?!?!?", they know them as "Pork Rinds"!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
