depending on the items and how long the power was or is out really, if it is still out-ice cream probably no good, as long as the other items in the freezer do not defrost they should be fine, u might consider a bag of ice to through in each or a large summer cooler w/ ice for the milk and dairy products or lunch meat type of items!. especially if the power is still off!.you do not want the inside to be the same temp as outdoors unless u live in a cold climate, them open the door!.if ur ice cubes are melted in the freezer then definitely check everything you don't want it above 40degreesWww@FoodAQ@Com

If you leave the freezer door shut, these factors affect how long food will stay frozen:

Amount of food in the freezer!. Food in a full freezer will stay frozen about two days!. Food in a freezer that is only half full may stay frozen up to one day!. Keeping containers of ice in a partially filled freezer helps keep other foods frozen longer!. also, while the freezer is operating, less energy is required to keep the ice frozen than to keep empty space or air at 0 degrees!.

Kind of food!. A freezer full of meat will not warm up as fast as a freezer full of baked food!.

Temperature in the freezer before it quit!. The colder the food, the longer it will stay frozen!.

Amount of freezer insulation!. Obviously, a well-insulated freezer will keep food frozen much longer than one with little insulation!.

Size of freezer!. The larger the freezer, the longer the food will stay frozen, particularly if the freezer is full!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Depends whats in there!.!. Everything in the freezer should be fine!.!. When the power comes back on, you should check the meats and see if they have defrosted!. If they have you need to use them asap! You can re-freeze something thats already been defrosted!. Everything in the fridge should be fine!. Just use your own judgement! If your leary about something, I suggest just getting rid of it!. I hate throwing things out and wasting but its better than getting sick!n Hope I helped! =)Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's probably okay right now in the freezer, but your fridge items need to be put on ice if it doesn't come back on in the next hour!

Do like we do in South Louisiana!.!.!. when a hurrican comes and we lose power, after a day, we have a hurrican party, and cok all the food in the freezers/fridges and invite neighbors and friends over to eat!. Better than letting it rot!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You should be good without power for 24-36 hours in the freezer, frig about 24 hours!. Get a generator if you have power outages that last more than 24 hours!.----My sister has found when they have outages, they last for 36 + hours so they got a generator to maintain the basic needs!. They have 6 of 10 kids still living at home!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Depending on the fridge/freezer food shoudl be good for 12-36 hours without the doors beign opened!. Some things like meats and dairy might spoil a little sooner!. Best advice!.!.!.!.go get a couple blocks of dry ice and put them on the top shelf, that will keep things cold and your food safe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
