Question: Ice Cream Salt vs!. Pool Salt!?
My sister uses the salt for her pool (a saltwater pool) in her ice cream maker!. Is that okay!? What is the differences between salts!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
It's okay to use the same salt for both!. There no big difference!. Just the size and form of the salt

You can use Rock salt is available at most hardware stores and supermarkets!. The salt you buy for a water softener (called Solar Salt) works also!. Another place you can purchase rock salt is at a pool supply store!. You may substitute table salt or kosher salt (though they cost a little more)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I wouldn't eat any of that ice cream if i were you!.

I'm sure if you look on the salt container it will porobably have lots of warning labels on it like 'corrosive' and 'do not swallow'!. The salt for the pool is industrial salt and isn't meant to be eaten and almost definately not safe to be eaten!.

Don't take the chance, remove the salt and clean the machine, use table salt that is safe!. There are lots of different salts never assume they are the same!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Salt just makes the ice "colder!." It's not actually going INTO the ice cream!. I'm sure it's fine!.

Plus, would she use salt that wasn't safe to consume in her swimming pool!.!.!. where people submerge their entire body and possibly consume and/or absorb the water through their skin!? I wouldn't think so!Www@FoodAQ@Com

well, it dosent really matter, the salt isnt going to go into the ice cream!.!.!.!.it jsut helps it formWww@FoodAQ@Com

it doesnt matter what salt you use it doesnt go in your ice cream anyway, salt is salt sodium chlorideWww@FoodAQ@Com
