Question: What type of oil should be used in a hot smoker and where can I get it from in the UK!?
I bought a hot smoker but have been unable to find the oil needed for it!. I got it on ebay and the instructions are foreign - I understand how to use it, just not what type of oil I should get and where to get it from!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
The burner for a hot smoker is below the container and uses Meths - using anything else would make the smoker very black and sooty!. The only oil that should be inside the smoker is the tiny amount you would use on the bars of the rack,to stop whatever you are smoking from sticking to them!.
Methylated Spirits are available in the hardware department of most supermarkets!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

oil!? don't use oil in a smoker!. want to oil the grates before laying meat down!? any vegatable oil will do!. put a little on a paper towel and rub it on the grate!.

but you should not oil the meat, use a dry rub!. you shouldn't burn oil for flavor use wood chips!. i can't see where oil would even come into play anywhere else!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I could be totally wrong!.!.!.but I didn't think you put oil in a hot smoker!.!.!.I though it was something like wood chips, or tea leaves or similar which produced lots of smoke!.!.!.!.oil would likely burst into flame, and give everything a greasy covering!.!.!.but I haven't got one, so what do I know!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
