Why do Texans hate meat so much?!
Since moving here I have to ask for unseasoned meat any time I dine out - and it's not always available!.
What is with the Texan habit of killing the flavour of the meat with strong spices!? You grow great beef and then destroy it's flavour!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Texas is in the South!. Southerners like to actually season their food!. It ain't New England, where damn near everything is eaten plain!. If you ask politely, I'm sure they can serve your steak boiled and unseasoned; they'd just find it a bit strange!.
They do have a point!.
EDIT- The old England, huh!? lol, well no wonder! You're just not used to spicy Southern food, that's all!. Texans will even put salsa or Tabasco sauce on their eggs in the morning!. They are some friendly people there; just ask them to fix it plain!. I'm sure they will!. Avoid the restaurants where they won't serve your food they way you like it!. You'll probably grow to love Southern cooking after a while though; no doubt!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think you're saying that there are too many strong spices used to season the meat!. And the marinades are quite strong in flavor, too!. It doesn't have to do with the dislike of the natural flavor, it just has to do with the preference to strong flavors in ALL the food we eat down here!. It is a regional issue, as you say!.
You might want to try ordering the more universal dishes, which will come with less of the strong seasonings!. And you can continue to ask the cook to go easy on the salt and pepper!
Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I find it very hard to believe you can't go to a steakhouse and kindly ask the waiter to tell the cook you don't want salt, pepper or any other seasoning on your steak when they grill it!.
If you go places where the steaks are marinated, that's a different story!.
But, maybe it's in your approach or perhaps you're not making yourself clear!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your subject line threw me off - we Texans LOVE meat! I think there are seasonings that bring meat alive and add to the flavor - that's the whole idea!. Try this recipe:

I agree with you to a certain extent!. Beef here is either barbecued, with rubs and sauces of various types, or grilled the same way!. Our favorite steak restaurant is Saltgrass, and I always ask them to leave off the seasonings!. I'm a purist!. But not a lot of people are!. Sigh!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
One person's opinion of good meat is differant from anothers!. I think meat with no seasoning is boring and blan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
