Help solve a marital argument is a tomato a fruit? and if so what qualifies it as such?!

Question: Help solve a marital argument is a tomato a fruit!? and if so what qualifies it as such!?
Answers:
Botanically speaking, anything that bears seeds is a fruit!. The fruit forms
from the reproductive part of the plant, i!.e!., the flower!. The ovary of the
flower becomes the fruit and inside the seeds form!. So a tomato comes from
the flower and inside are the seeds!. So it is a fruit!. A nut is a seed and
the shell is the fruit!. Anything from a part of the plant that is not the
flower is vegetative, i!.e!., does not reproduce!. So leaves, stems and roots
are vegetables!. So lettuce, carrots and potatoes are vegetables!.!.!.But Tomato is a fruitWww@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, its a fruit!.
It is so because it contains seeds within a fleshy, nutient rich bulb and grows on a tree, bush or vine!.

A tomato is actually a berry, as it contains multiple seeds within a single piece!.

There are other crazies though!.
Banana's are not fruits!. Although they contain seeds inside flesh, the banana "tree" is actually a grass!.

A pepper is a fruit, and like the tomato, is also a berry!.

A Strawberry and a raspberry are not berries, since each "berry" is made up of clusters or fruits, rather than being a single one, and each member of the cluster has only one seed!.

There are loads of inaccuracies in the labelling and naming of fruits!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

This is the difference between intelligence and wisdom!.!.!.

Intelligence: knowing a tomato is a fruit
Wisdom: not putting it into a fruit salad!.

Whilst we're at it, peanuts are neither peas, nor nuts!. They're legumes!.

EDIT: for the record - if we allow tomatoes as fruits, then we also have to allow cucumbers, peppers, pumpkins, and so forth, as the requirement for a fruit is more or less that it surrounds a fertilised seed-body!.!.!.

In practice, I don't think the distinction really counts for much!.

EDIT: bloke below - in fact, they are all fruits - merely different *kinds* of fruit, of which there are four (simple, aggregate, multiple and accessory)!. And being a grass is no bar to bearing a fruit, so bananas sneak in, as well!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Botanically, tomato is a fruit since it carries seeds in them!. It's the ovary of the plant!.!.!. similar to apples and pears!.
