I have tried them and they can be very very good!.
They are related to a mushroom but have a much more vibrant flavor and aroma!. They are typically found below the soil near certain types of trees and are typically found by trained dogs or pigs that sniff them out!. They add a pleasant earthy taste and aroma to your food even when used in small quantities!. Typically they are shaved over your finished sauce!.
Not all truffles are created equal and not all cost the same!. Do some research of the type of truffle you can afford and the market that you are buying it before you make the splurge!. it would be a shame to waste $100 on a poor specimen!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Just to clarify, some people seem to be getting regular truffles confused with chocolate "truffles"!. Real truffles are related to mushrooms and are very rare, they cannot be cultivated and that is what makes them so expensive!. Chocolate "truffles" are candies made with a chocolate ganache and are meant to look like a real truffle!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
IT is a rare fungus that grows on tree roots!. They are difficult to find or cultivate!. Some animals, especially pigs, have been trained to sniff them out!. Never tried them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
