Hitting watermelons before purchase???!
I've seen this in a lot of grocery stores people knocking on watermelons and picking another up and doing the same!?!?
i knocked on one but dont see what the point is!?!?

There are some key features to look for!.
1) If the watermelon has a yellow shade somewhere on it, it is a sign that, that part of the surface never faced the sun!. This implies the watermelon grew without being disturbed which is a good indicator of a good watermelon!.
2) When you tap it, you should feel as if it is vibrating or something!. If it is not vibrating a bit, it implies that the inside is rotten and slushy!.

some people just want to look like they know what they are doing!. but the real reason people do it is to see if it is ripe or not!. If you are wearing tennis shoes thump the bottom of them and then thump the watermelon!. the watermelon is ripe if it sounds like your shoe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
They need to have a shiny green color, not brown or pale green!. They need to have stiff ends where the root was at and the end of the watermelon!. And the "thumping" is because they need to sound hollow like banging on a small drum!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
