Question: You know how theres this HUGE recall on tomatoes!? Does that mean there is a recall on ketchup!?
Answers:
No!. Cooked tomatoes are fine!. All canned and processed tomato products are cooked!. The concern is only with raw tomatoes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The salmonella bacteria is killed in tomatoes that are cooked to an internal temp of 145F!.
Ketchup, canned tomatoes, jarred tomato sauces, all ketchup based products ie!. cocktail sauce are safe because they are pasteurized and heated to over 145F!.

also the only tomatoes affected were Roma, plums and red rounds( not cherry tomatoes or vined tomatoes) were infected/Www@FoodAQ@Com

There was only a recall on fresh tomatoes!. NO processed tomato products have been recalled!. Now they are bringing fresh tomatoes back into the store from certain growers that have been cleared!.

If the contamination had been in processed foods, it would have probably been easier to find the source!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The recall is for certain types of tomatoes -- plum, roma, and round tomatoes NOT on a vine!. It is for salmonella, which is only a problem if you're eating your tomatoes raw!.

Ketchup is cooked, so any salmonella in there would be killed!. It won't hurt you!.

Don't worry!. :) Have some fries!Www@FoodAQ@Com
