Why do bananas rot when kept with other fruit?!


Question: Why do bananas rot when kept with other fruit!?
Its a well known fact that bananas rot quicker when they are kept with other fruit!.

i!.e!. A bowl of fruit containing apples, oranges etc with a bunch of bananas on top!.

Which is why a lot of people keep them separate!.

But does anyone know why they rot faster!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Fruits produce ethylene gas naturally!. When you pile fruit in a bowl the gas causes it to ripen faster!. This effects all fruits not just bananas!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

cause they release a gas so if you had it near other fruit that also release the same gas it ages faster, you can see it happen by putting one banana in the open air and another in a bag or box, the boxed or bagged one will produce a gas that rapidly ages it (oxidates)Www@FoodAQ@Com
