Are leek roots edible?!

Question: Are leek roots edible!?
I saw a chinese cooking show and I think, (really not too sure) they were using whole leeks, roots and all!. They were saying that the roots are where all the flavour is!. I have leeks growing in garden and before I go using the whole thing roots and all I thought I had better find out if they really are edible!. ThanksWww@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
They are edible, when washed thoroughly - but we consider them not so appealing - look wise!.
Corriander root is the best bit and broccoli stalk is often used in soup and stir frys!.
We do tend to throw or peel of too much, just through routine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, thoroughly washed, I suppose you could eat them, but I wouldn't attempt it with store-bought veggies!. E Coli!.!.!.just for starters!.!.!.anything that requires poop to grow!.!.!.!.not my idea of yummy, but everybody's different!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
