Why does Pineapple hurt the tongue?!

Question: Why does Pineapple hurt the tongue!?
I just ate some pineapple and it has hurt my tongue, Does anyone know why Pineapple hurts the tongue!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
It's mainly because like all citrus/ high-acidity fruits it reacts on our tongues!. Pineapple is also a palate cleanser!. Form my experiences, it's only hurt after eating too much of the fruit!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Its not just the acid!
Pineapple contains a form of the enzyme protease which acts on protein and digests it!. When you eat the pineapple this enzyme is heated to its activation point in your mouth which is about 30 degrees!. This then starts to digest the lining of your mouth exposing some of the nerve endings and deeper sensitive layers of skin!. When the citric acid and tartic acid touch these exposed areas it can really hurt, and thats the pain that you feel!Www@FoodAQ@Com

If by hurting you mean stinging, you may be anaemic!.
When my wife was anaemic a number of things made her mouth sting!. Pineapple, Chilli, and toothpaste!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Pineapple has a high concentrate of citric acid so it stings the tongue!. Keep it in the fridge a while before eating!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The acid in the fruit can burn a sensitive tongue, giving you the burning and stinging pain on your tongue!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you have to peel the pineapple first then eat whats inside, you cant just bite into it like an apple=) its like biting a cactus then wondering why your mouth hurtsWww@FoodAQ@Com

Er!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.(Sorry about this but I just COULDN'T resist!.!.!.!.!.!.!.) - you're supposed to PEEL it first!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.
