Overweight child?!
My neighbors son is very sad, because during his school physical the doctor told the mother that he is to fat and must be a couch potatoe!. Now, just by looking at the child you would never call him fat or overweight!. I see him playing soccer all the time and riding his bike!. Surprisingly, according to the charts he is!. He is only 4 years old!.
Apparently the doctor was obese!.
How do you feel about an obese doctor telling a child (that isn't fat at all) that he/she is overweight!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

The charts can go to he!! as far as I am concerned!. I am 5 foot 10inches and if I get on a scale I am "fat" but my body fat is only 26% av for my height is like 30% I play tennis, soccer, run etc!. So I would suggest getting a second opnion!. if possible find a dr!. that works with athlete's and explain what is going on!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
If the charts say the child is overweight, he might very well be!. Since he is getting the proper exercise, I would just monitor his diet a little bit!. I would never put a child like this on a "diet" of any kind!. Maybe the family could also take walks and just do healthy living together, but it sounds like the child is already getting some exercise, which is great!.
As for the doctor, I wouldn't say anything about him or his background as a child, since the chart is what it is!. What does bother me is that the child is sad!. How exactly did the doctor say this!? Usually doctors speak in ways that the child won't really understand if it is something like this!. Was the doctor rude to the child!? I don't like the use of "couch potato" in front of the child!. Has the mother gone on to the child about it!? If a child is overweight, it is something for the parents to be concerned about, not the child!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think the doctor should be telling a small child (perhaps an older teenager) that he's overweight (it's the parents issue, not the childs)!. My little sister went through a huge change between 4 and 5, when she gained a lot of height!. Before then, she had what I'd call "baby fat," even though she's never been overweight!. She's a little stick, now!. You would think that a doctor would be more concerned about his own weight, but that doesn't change the fact that your neighbor's son could still be overweight!. I wouldn't be overly concerned about a "borderline overweight" child if it was mine - I'd focus on an active lifestyle and healthy food (cut out the junk)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
