Answers:
Things that grow out of the ground have a greater chance for carrying bacteria/diseases!. Most of the contamination comes from human or animal feces that gets on the soil and/or food growing out of the ground!. Hence, the spinach problem and tomato problem!.

Lemons grow in trees!.!.!.!.so less chance of that happening!. Although fruit on trees still may have pesticides!. Wash all veggies/fruits!.

What your coworker may have meant!.!.!.is that if there are lemons/limes at a restaurant in a canister next to the soda machine!.!.!.!.people are reaching with their bare hands to get the lemons!.!.!.and fecal matter and bacteria can transfer to the food that way!. Some people are very weary of using any condiments that people reach in a grab or peanuts/popcorn at a bar!.!.!.etc!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

lemons are very unlikey to have salmonella unless once picked and set next to ground produce that is contaminated!. lemons and limes were used to ward off scurvy on ships back in the days because they contained a lot of vitamin c!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

lemons ph is aprox!.=2,at this ph,which is very acid, salmonella like most bacteria cant grow!.Damage to the fruit will probably come from molds (fungal origin)Www@FoodAQ@Com
