How do you know if fruit is fresh?!

Question: How do you know if fruit is fresh!?
I just want to know how to tell if oranges, grapefruit, cantaloupe, etc!. (just any fruit in general) are fresh!. It just always seems to be hit or miss when I pick them out at the store and wondered if people had a system for it!.
Thanks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
check them for brown spots or any damage like bruises!. citrus fruits should smell like what they are ie oranges grapefruit should smell like oranges or grapefruit!. Give them a little squeeze they should be soft but squishy!. with cantaloupe they should give but not too much!. look at the end where it looks white!. that is where the stem was!. it is rotten
or smell bad!? press on it!. if it is too soft it is overripe!. also
cantaloupe should smell ripe!. it should have that cantaloupe smell!. After a while of this testing you should be able to judge pretty quick where the fruit is ripe!. Please bear in mind that most fruit does not ripen after you take it home so don't think well it is hard now it will soften up when I get home!. Only bananas, avacodos, tomatoes will ripen off the vine!. The rest just rot!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A fruit remain fresh when it has enough water into it, refrigeration help fruit to not loose water but Freshness of any fruit can be only noticed by the ratio of size & weight!.
Like if you want to buy orange than choose the Orange which is heavier in comparison to the other oranges of same size!. This is not applicable to all fruits, but it is for all juicy fruits like you mentioned here,
Next you may ask how to judge which BANANA is more fresh !?Www@FoodAQ@Com

apples:nice and crunchy
strawberries:easy to cut
bananas:nice and yellow, not bruised
orange:nice and shiny
grape fruit: also shiny
cantoulope:easy to cut
lemon:nice and sour
lime:again nice and sour
avacado (i know its a vegetable) nice and hard
tomato: fresh and redWww@FoodAQ@Com

i do the squeeze test!. you don't want them to be rock solid but if they're mushy, they're bad!

it's a bit easier with things like apples or grapes or bananas because they will be brown or bruised!Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are no signs of the fruit being spoiled like black patches!. No funny smell!. No tiny holes!. No insects crawling all over!. The skin is intact!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i usually smell it!. if it doesn't smell it isn't ripeWww@FoodAQ@Com
