What do you think is the secret of being the best chef?!

Question: What do you think is the secret of being the best chef!?
just wondering ;pWww@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
You have to have a passion for cooking!.

But I'm not sure what you mean by "best"!. There are many different kinds of chefs and levels of competency!. Do you mean best restaurant chef!? Best home chef!? Best television chef!?

Learning to cook spans a lifetime!. No one knows everything about cooking!.

There are some awards and certifications for professional chefs!. The "James Beard Award" is probably the most prestigious award in the business!. This award is based on reviews written in newspapers!. Only a handful of chef's across the country are chosen every year!.

The ACF "Certified Master Chef" is the highest certification level given out!. I think there are only about 60 certified master chef's in the US!. To qualify, a chef must be certified at the "Executive Chef" level!. They hold the "Master Chef" competition once a year!. I think its a 3 day cooking competition and it costs about $10,000 to enter (don't quote me on any of these facts)!. Very few chefs are ever able to reach this level of competency in their lifetimes!.

Here is a link to the ACF (American Culinary Federation) home page!. They have all the info on certification levels!.

Of course good chefs are going to have the best meals in town, good culinary skills, leadership, table manners, good service, affordable/appropriate prices, etc etc!.

However the best chefs are original and secretive with their cooking!.
Original in their recipes - they make their own version of the food even if its as simple as chicken & corn soup!. I'm sure you would have had experience where somebody would say "I'm going to that restaurant because they have the best stroganoff, etc!."
A best chef manages this!.

Secrecy - Best chefs never tell their deepest kitchen/recipe secrets!. I've never met a master chef that did!. NONE of them blow out their secrets like that!.
Like a magician never tells his tricks to another!. Same principle applies!. Never reveal too many of your culinary secrets!.

Hope that helped
