I live in the US in a state (Kansas) where this was a problem!. The tomatoes were believed to be in many of the US states!. There was an outbreak of salmonella amongst tomatoes from farms in the state of Florida or the country of Mexico!. It has not been determined which yet!. They believe it to be only once since the bacteria strain is very rare!. We have been told by the Federal Drug Administration that tomatoes from other states are safe to eat and they have returned to most restaurants as of a couple of days ago!. The restaurant where I ate lunch yesterday gave me tomatoes on my sandwich and I feel just fine! :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Dear oh dear, another food "scare"!. I'd just like someone to explain just HOW tomatoes can even GET salmonella, let alone carry it - and is it IN them or ON them, or is it just a "get-out" for a food supplier whose kitchen hygiene was a bit lacking!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Salmonella bacteria are usually transmitted to humans by eating foods contaminated with animal feces or foods that have been handled by infected food service workers who have practiced poor personal hygiene!. Most tomatoes from most areas are fine to eat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am from UK and there is a salmonella outbreak involving tomatoes in many States, I dont think they have found the source yet, but suspect it is in Florida!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yeah there are two types of tomatoes that are contaminated with salmonella!. I'm not sure what they are but as a result no restaurants are offering tomatoes in their food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
