i work in a school and i asked our H&S people at the council if we can sell cakes at our summer fayre!. they said theres no 'laws' but guidelines say you should put some kind of sign that shows they are homemade 'OUR HOMEMADE CAKES STALL' covers it lol!. he said selling things like sandwiches is a no no unless u got the hygiene certificates, but cakes and that have plenty of sugar and so are usually ok!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Health & Safety Legislation in a ******!
My mother was told that if she made meals for the people at the Old Age Home the Local Council would have to come round and "assess" her kitchen first and pass it according to H&S guidelines!. Same thing for making cakes for Church Fetes!. That is what you get for charity work!Www@FoodAQ@Com

There is VAT on cakes so I suppose you are depriving the treasury of income but who cares, the only thing you really have to worry about is the public hygiene issue!. The organiser of the fete should be covered with a public liability insurance policyWww@FoodAQ@Com
Why would you be breaking the law!?
If you are talking about hygene or VAT, cakes do not carry VAT and people have been done no wrong by eating cake on a plate!.
Don't be petty!. Its fine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
