I was allergic to milk as a child, until about the age of 10, when I grew out of it!. (They did not use the word lactose intolerant in those days)!. That is what happened to me, severe stomach cramps!. Hope you are young and lucky like I was!. I love my milk!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
You are probably lactose intolerant, at least to some degree!.
Ice-cream can be less of a problem because it has loads of fat in it (for the same reason, full-fat milk is easier on those who are lactose intolerant than reduced fat or fat free milks, though less healthy for other reasons)!.
And chocolate has very little or no milk in it, even if it's "milk chocolate!."
And yogurt is usually fine for anyone who's lactose intolerant because the lactose gets eaten up by the "good" bacteria as it's created from milk!.
Check out lactose intolerance online to see other things that can help or that you should avoid or don't need to avoid:
http://www!.google!.com/search!?q=lactose+i!.!.!.
You can also use Lactaid milk, or put Lactaid (or other brands) tabs in your milk, or take Lactaid (or other brands) of lactose-reducing pills before eating/drinking something that contains a lot of lactose to avoid the cramping!.
The sheer amount of lactose taken in at one time can make a difference too!. And lastly, eating some fat along with milk if it's low fat or fat free can reduce the reaction just like drinking a full-fat milk can!.
