Garlic and butter is a great idea!!!
Grits should be treated the same as potatoes, so basically anything you would put mashed potatoes would work!.
If I'm super hungry, I will make bacon and then chop it up, mix in the pieces with the grits, also add a spoonfull of sour cream, butter, salt and pepper!. So So SOOOOOOO yummy!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

You need to cook grits quite a while (even the instant or quick cooking kind) to make them soft and creamy and not like sand or gritty!. Sometimes I add in milk or cream while they are cooking and then finish them with butter!. Cheese is always a good option to add to them!. Down here in the south we make cheese grits with roasted garlic and serve them with grilled shrimp that are wonderful!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I grew up on Grits but they are so tasteless! I eat something called Polenta Grits now!. They taste better and are sooooooooooo way healthier!. I have included a link!. I add a lil salt and pepper to mine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Grits is an acquired taste!. I've heard that people put a little of anything in them!.
It should be a savory side dish and not a sweetened breakfast dish!. Crumpled bacon works well as an add-in!.
If yours tasted like sand, someone did something wrong!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
