Are potatoes vegetables or starch/grain?!

Question: Are potatoes vegetables or starch/grain!?
I know potatoes grow in the ground like a vegetable but I also know that they have starch in them like the grain food group!. Should they be classified as a starch/grain or do they fall solely under the vegetable category!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
They are classified a vegetable, but don't have enough nutrients to qualify as your 4-5 servings of fruits/veggies per day!. They DO have alot of carbs & starch, though, and should be considered a starch when serving them with a meal (NOT considered a veggie for balanced meals) Corn, peas, lima beans, legumes are also considered starches when planning a balanced meal!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Potatoes are a vegetable and they are starchy!.
They are not grain, however!. Grains are cereals like wheat, oats, etc!. Potatoes are a root vegetable!.

Starch is just a name for complex carbohydrates!.
Sugars are simple carbohydrates!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They are both!. A starchy vegetable!. Sadly, they are not the healthiest either :(

(By the way, I once got reported for answering this very question! It's true!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com
