Truffles grow underground and are hunted with dogs to smell them through the earth!. Usually near old growth oak trees such as in France!. These are a somewhat rare find, hence the high truffle prices!.
Mushrooms grow above the ground so they can be located and harvested by anybody with specific knowledge of the type of mushroom!. You must really join a Mushroom hunting club to keep in the know about what may be deadly ones!.
Or you can work for any large US company and harvest them from the "rank and file" cubicles daily!. They love the atmosphere there and some grow to over 200 pounds in that environment!. Both Male and Female of the species!. New York has the plumpest ones of all!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The major difference is that truffles grow underground and the don't grow a predominant stem and often look like small potatoes!.

Truffles are fungus/mushroom which grows underground, unlike other mushrooms which grow above ground!.!.!.!.!.They are quite scarce & in France they use pigs (because they grow underground are hard to find ~ pigs noses are very sensitive to finding them , apparently pigs adore them!.!.Not only are they a delicacy for humans, but pigs also) to dig them up!.!.Because of their scarcity, they are very expensive!.!.Some specialty French restaurants may have them on the menu!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
All correct answers!. American Truffles, a relatively new thing, or Oregon black or white truffles can be purchased for about $100 a pound if your lucky!. More like $150!. Their European counterparts will run you quite a bit more!. You can by them on line from several suppliers!. Just google "buy truffles!." You can get them fresh, frozen, freeze -dried or in a jar!. also lots of truffle related products like truffle butter, truffle-infused olive oil or truffle oil (Truffle oil does not contain any real component of truffles!. It is a synthetic additive that tastes like truffles!.) This surprises many chefs and others just don't care, figuring it's worth the taste at $20 dollars a bottle!.

Truffles are a type of mushrooms!. But they are very expensive!. They use pigs or dogs to find them in France!. Its not the type of mushroom that you would fry up with your T-bone steak!.
