Question: My mother's cholesterol is over 400 she states she's starving since she can't have pizza or red meat!.!.
she doesn't like to cook and I suggested whole grains, egg whites, fruits and vegetables, bagels!. nuts, chicken and turkey without the skin what the heck else can I tell her to eatWww@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
i can sense a lack of responsibility on her side regards her health!.!.!.what you advise her is perfect !.!.!.!!! what more can one say!.!.!.!.sometimes being healthy starts and its more mental than taking action as am stopping eating this and that!.
talk to her!.!.!.!.it is obvious that she needs to change her attitude towards food since she has such conditions or seek help with pros!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think that her problem is more mental than physical!. I think that since she knows she has to limit her diet, she automatically thinks that she's starving because she can't eat as much pizza and burgers as she used to!. She has to get past those thoughts before she's going to succeed any any lifestyle changes!.

Schedule an appointment with a nutritionist!. A nutritionist can help tailor meals plans so she won't feel so hungry and will help to see exactly what she's putting into her body!.

I think that another thing that will help is not going cold turkey all at once!.!.!.!.!.!.that can be bad for anyone!. Start by cutting out some little things!.!.!.!.!.!.say lean red meat 2 x per week instead of 6!. If she must have pizza, get a whole wheat crust, light cheese and load it up with veggies!. A turkey burger is a nice option, or you could mix have ground turkey with half (or less) of lean red ground meat!. Probably wouldn't even notice!.

Fiber is good and filling---cereal bars (read the labels carefully, some aren't very good for you)--bran flakes, etc!. Buy the fixings for some salads!. Many come already washed and chopped!. Lettuce, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, grape tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, frozen peas, turkey breast!. Skip the cheese or use a very little bit!. Choose a heart healthy dressing!.!.!.!.!.nothing creamy!.

Egg white omelet loaded with fresh veggies and some salsa in moderation!.

Whole wheat bread is another good option, I would opt for the "diet" bread because you can have 2 slices since they're thin!.

Stay after from lunch meats like bologna, salami, hot dogs, sausages, etc!.

Good luck!. Be supportive, she's probably ate high fat foods her entire life!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's extremely high cholesterol!. I thought mine was super high at 308!.
Looks like you have a lot more sense than your mother!. I think she really needs to see a nutritionist and go over some vital things!. Your doctor should be able to refer you!.
There is no reason to starve when controlling your diet to combat high cholesterol!. It just needs a bit of determination and ability not to yield to temptation!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If she doesn't want to eat what is recommended to her, it can't and shouldn't be forced!.!.!. maby see if there is someone at the hospital or a friend knows someone who has had heart bypass surgery or a heart attack, stroke, or other major complication, and have that person talk to your mother!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You already suggested what you can!. There's not much you can do to help if a grown person refuses help!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

tell her to eat grilled red meat and low fat pizza with brown bread or not to much red meat or fat in itWww@FoodAQ@Com

with that high of a cholesterol level she should be on meds!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
