Question: What is Canola oil!?
I keep seeing American recipes that call for Canola oil!. I am from the UK and just wondered if we used the same oil but under a different name!. If not, what is a substitute!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

The oil is extracted from a group of cultivars of rapeseed variants from which low erucic acid rapeseed oil and low glucosinolate meal are obtained!. The word "canola" was derived from "Canadian oil, low acid" in 1978!.[1][2] The oil is also known as "LEAR" oil (for Low Erucic Acid Rapeseed)!.[3]Www@FoodAQ@Com

I believe it is made from genetically modified rape seed!. GM is big business!. They are trying to push GM on to third world countries!. And Governments support them! Canola oil is made from a canola plant!. kind of a grain!. It is very nuetral tasting so any vegetable oil would be a fine substitute!.!.!. corn oil would work too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
