Question about food in the fridge after the power went out?!
Last night, our power went out for about 2 or 3 hours!. I started to worry about some of the foods in our refrigerator, especially the milk!. How long do these foods usually last if the power is cut off!? And would they be safe to eat/drink!? Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

You should be okay!. If you kept the fridge door closed the whole time, it should have retained the cool temperature!. I only start throwing stuff out if the power's been out for more than 4 hours!. Most of the things in your fridge should be safe!. The only thing I'd question is the milk, possibly yogurt if you have that!. Everything else should be perfectly fine, and of course the freezer is fine - the power would have to be out a long time for stuff in the freezer to go bad!.
I'd say toss the milk and get a new carton!. Everything else is probably okay!. If in doubt, sniff it before you eat it!. If it smells, looks, or feels funny, toss it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Usually the food in a refrigerator will keep as long as the temperature stays within the safe storage range!. If the power does go out, don't open the fridge, you let the cold air out and bring the temperature up in the fridge!. The more it stays shut without power, the longer it will keep cold!. The usda says that 40-140 is the "danger zone" for meats!. Anything left out for 2 hours in a temperature of 40-90, should not be eaten!. Anything left in 90-140 degrees should not be eaten after 1 hour!. Milk will also start to go bad in room temperature for around 2 hours!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
If the refrigerator it's not open every second it can hold during that day or night!.!.!. the refrigerator is like a big isolator as long is stays closed the longer is going to hold!.!.!. about the milk if the milk is not near to exp!. date it's not going to get spoiled!.!.!. but if you want to be extra cautious the moment that hapend, take the ice from your freezer (if you have icepack) with salt (so do not melt fast) and put it in a portable refrigerator (the foam ones or one that you have on hand) put there the milk and other cold cut like ham and other!.!.!. hope this help you in somethingWww@FoodAQ@Com
A fridge or freezer will stay "down to temperature" for several hours" IF you DON'T OPEN THE DOORS!!
The classic mistake lots of people make is open it up to see if it's still cold
If you ever notice the power is out / off a good idea would be to tape the door of fridges and freezers closed till the power returnsWww@FoodAQ@Com

Consider the types of food!. Some will last longer that others at room temperature!. A covered bowl of vegetable soup, for example, would last much longer than a bottle of milk!. Having said that, I would think that even items with the shortest room-temp life would be safe for 2-3 hours, especially if the door wasn't opened!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
as long as you kept the door shut everything should be fine!. unless of course the seals on the door are in bad shape!. unless it was an outage lasting more than 6 hours i wouldn't worry about a thing!. there are a lot of sites that will tell you now long things will last in the fridge during a power outage!. google it if you need expert advice!. but for the duration of time your talking about, i wouldn't worry about a thing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
They should be totally fine if it were just for a few hours!.!.!.I would smell the milk of course - it depends on how close the expiration date is / how many times the fridge was open!.!.!.
We lost power for 4 days last month and we put bags of ice in our freezer on top of some of our food, and it was still good after the power came back onWww@FoodAQ@Com

Everything should be fine!. I mean you won't really be able to know unless you smell the milk, but if it smells fine, it should not have gone bad!. I've left a glass of milk out for that long, and after I realized I had, I went back and drank some!. Obviously it was a little warm, but it hadn't curdled or anything of the sort!. Your meats should be fine too, but keep an eye on them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
You should be fine!. As long as you didnt open and close the refrigerator a bunch of times!. The food should have remained cool if the power was only out for 3 hours!.
I lost power 2 years ago during the winter for 1 week!. I kept everything from my freezer in my washing machine packed with ice!. And!.!.!. it worked!. I was so excited the food wasnt wasted!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hmm!.!.!. I think your milk should be alright as long as you weren't opening and shutting the fridge the whole time!. Usually, when the power goes out, we put the milk in the freezer!. If the power was only out for 2-3 hours, it should be fine!. And, if you really feel uncomfortable, chuck it and buy some new milk!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Two to three hours doent seem long if you did not let the cold out of the fridge like keeping the cold trapped they should be ok if the milk went warm i would just toss it you know it was too long if your butter is melted and ice is melted!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
The food should be fine for several hours as long as you dont open the door!. the air inside the refrigerator will stay cool for several hours if you don't open it and mix warm air in!. Same goes for the freezer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
If you didn't open your fride while the power was out it should have kept everything pretty cold in 2-3 hours, so most stuff should be ok!. Just check it first!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
that is not very long
the refrigerator will stay cold for a day or two if it is not opened
Remember the motor does not cycle on for several hours until the door is openedWww@FoodAQ@Com

Milk and meat would definitely be something you would want to check out!. If the milk smells fine, then it should be safe to drink--just be careful and test it first!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Two or three hours is no problem!. Especially if the doors were not open!. That's about the same as packing a picnic in an ice chest!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
2-3 hours is nothing!. Everything kept pretty cold still!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
