It depends on how ripe it is right now so there is no definite answer!. The right thing to do is to check it regularly and when it will be ripe when it is time!. You know it is ripe when it yields gently to pressure - it won't be squishy, but it won't exactly be hard either!. Experience will teach you the feel!.
also, it can take a day or even a week to ripen in my experience!. The key is to get it to ripen, not to get rotten!. The best way in my experience for that is to store it in a paper bag!. Something equally absorbent like straw will probably work as well!. That will absorb any moisture in the atmospere as well as on the peach and prevent it from getting rotten instead of ripening!.
I added a link I googled with a bit more info below!. I have never tried out those techniques though (like adding a banana)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Until it's soft enough!
Some are picked way green and never really develop sweetness and flavor; some are picked when almost ripe!.I've found most of the larger supermarkets deal in volume - not quality - and do not have our mouth's interest at heart!.
Buy a peach tree, plant in your backyard and enjoy!
