Pammy I am with you all the way! Nearly two pounds for a loaf of bread, I remember it being 70p not that long back!Disgusting isn't it!?xxWww@FoodAQ@Com

Whilst i completely agree that the amount we are having to pay for basics is ludicrous, it is not actually the fault of the Supermarkets!.
Since petrol prices have been rising, it is obviously costing more to transport the goods to various supermarkets, so the couriers etc have upped their prices to cover for fuel, hence the supermarkets have to up the goods so they are actually maing profit on them!. It is all getting completely out of hand, petrol, food, just gerneral every day living and that is without extravangances!. I just hope it slows down!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

The German supermarkets are Aldi and Lidl - I've not used them, but several people I work with swear by them!. I totally agree about the cost of food!. Staples like bread and milk have skyrocketed and small items, that perhaps had cost 20p a month or so ago, are now 25p - that might not look much in terms of money - but it's a massive percentage increase and, taken across all the shopping, means that we are spending around 40% more than we were just a short while ago!. It's also more expensive in Britain than anywhere else - petrol around £1!.20 now - gone up from around 90p a few months ago!. The only thing that hasn't gone up is our salaries!Www@FoodAQ@Com

hard to say, as its us the consumers whos demand governs what the prices are with food, and nowadays with so much competition , supermarkets are trying their best to keep prices low, however the conspiracy theorists out there including myself believe theres some collusion withing the big supermarkets and setting bars for certain food items i know its illegal but its a win win for all the supermarkets until they get caught that is

excuse my ignorance but what are the names of these german discount shops so i can go shop thereWww@FoodAQ@Com

The price of everything has gone up, not just food!.
I agree with the poster who said it has to do with the cost of gas!.
Transporting food is costlier, water bills for crops, etc!., etc!.

We have Aldi here in the USA and it's a great store to shop at!. They have many name brand things that larger stores have for a lot cheaper!.

If you are going to complain about the price of food, then try some of the solutions rather than adding to the problem - I!.E!. grow vegetables and fruits, shop at Aldi, etc!., etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it actually scares me! i have a young baby and just for his essentials like wipes n nappies n food etc, it will easily cost £80! that will last roughly 2 weeks!.

It is crazy! hopefully things will get better soon!.

I started to shop at Asda and noticed i was getting A LOT more for my money than tesco or sainsburys!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I absolutely agree!. I have had to cut things out of my grocery list just to keep the cost of food for 1 week in the $50-$60 range!. My husband and I have also stopped eating out a lot - and when we do go out, we go to cheap restaurants now too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I say GOLD HELP EVERYONE, but he cant!.

Its all to do with rising petrol prices, bad crop
Its not entirely the supermarkets fault!.They do have to make profits and at times they do special offers!.!.

Shop at ASDA or LIDL or ALDI to save money!.
Loaf of bread in ALDI is 37p and at TESCO it is 72p!.

Basic food items like flour, bread, juice, milk, butter!.cheese and so on !.!.!.!.!.have all gone up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes, it is crazy i went shopping about two week s ago , i normally spend about $ 300!.00 everytime i go , for the month that is and last time i was $550!.00 , for the same amount of stuff! Prices are going up on everything except for minimum wage! If they continue to raise prices on everything, why cant they raise our minimum wage also!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

What is wrong with using the German discount shops, they sell a wide range of recognised brands and in this time of rising prices you'd be insane not to try and buy cheaper, quality food!.
WHY DO PEOPLE TURN THEIR NOSES UP AT LIDL & ALDI!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, it's not the supermarkets' fault !.!.!. it's the oil producing countries' faults! !.!.!.!. the high cost of oil/fuel is raising the cost of everything else in the worl!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Food has been too cheap for a long time when taken as a percentage of average income!.

I just hope the farmers and suppliers are getting their fare share of the rises and not just the supermarket bosses!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Food is going up because of rising fuel prices, the only alternative is to start eating our friends and family,

:) Prices will only keep rising so try look for offers and buy what you need while you canWww@FoodAQ@Com

No, it's everything going haywire (crops, weather, environment, disasters, prices, etc), we're just getting what's coming out at the end - and really paying for it too!Www@FoodAQ@Com

i know i was gobsmacked at the price of "utterly butterly" i only used to buy it cuz it was just under a pound at 98p, but last week it was £1!.20!! how on earth can you justify that price hike!?!!?!!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

But, according to Incapability Brown and his pet (and now no doubt very relieved) badger, it's all our fault for buying Buy One Get One Frees (BOGOFs) and wasting half!. Or is that knife crime!? :-)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ethanol is partly to blame
