Pampered Chef gurus needed - I need help with making a "doll cake"?!
I'd like to make a "doll cake" for my daughter's birthday, but I only have the one quart batter bowl, and the recipe I found online calls for the two quart!. I'm sure I can still make a cake in the one quart, it'll just be smaller (duh!.!.!.) - but my questions are:
1!. Do I still bake it at 325 degrees, and for how long!?
2!. How full do I fill the batter bowl!? 1/2, 2/3, etc!. - since a whole box of cake mix will probably be too much!.
Thanks so much!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Definitely only use 1/2 of one cake mix!. See if you can measure how many cups one whole cake mix comes to, then divide it in half!. Don't rely on filling it a certain distance from the top because the cake will rise as it cooks and you won't want it to overflow!. Use the same temperature, but you'll have to watch the time!. Go with your nose on this one!. As soon as you can start smelling the cake, test it!. If it's not done, check it again every 5 minutes!.
TIP: Use a Skipper doll instead of Barbie, she's shorter!. And wrap her legs in plastic wrap before you put her in the cake - the cake is really hard to get out from between her toes!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I suppose you could just consider doing the recipe as "half" since you have the 1 qt instead of the 2 qt bowl!. Or you find a comparable-sized bowl/pan that you can use in your oven!.
But, if you're using the one quart bowl, only use one cake mix!. I've got the 2 quart bowl, and I typically will mix a cake batter in it - it fills it halfway, so two mixes should fill it almost full!.
If you think it's going to be too much batter, I'd probably say leave about an inch of space from the top of the bowl!.
Still bake it at 325!. As far as timing, that's going to depend on your oven!. The Doll Cake recipe has the 2 qt bowl baking for about 75 minutes!. I'm guessing you'll probably have to bake the 1 qt to 40 minutes, but around 25 I'd start checking it!. If you don't have any long wood skewers to test the middle for being done, try a long, thin boning knife!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
