Why is there such a thing as "egg mayonniase", when mayonnaise itself is made from egg?!

Other contributors offer better answers from a detailed point of view!. However, I am with you!. There seems to be a degree of tautology involved, as well as egg whites or yolks!.

It may be the same thing with 'egg-nog'!. Perhaps this should just be called 'nog'!.

I am always puzzled by other expressions such as, "We provide a full service!." This might be O!.K!. in some circumstances e!.g!. car servicing but why would anyone boast of a 'full service' in, say, hairdressing or building work for your house - as I have seen as part of advertisements!?

Perhaps customers are expected to dry their own hair after washing/dyeing, etc!., or to put their own glass into the new conservatory windows!. I think that a 'range of services', with examples, might be a better advertisement!.

A less than full service on plane flights might require the supplying of parachutes - especially if you run out of 'air miles' half-way across the Atlantic!. However, there is never a problem with 'full service' on our railways!.

Sorry for 'rabbiting on' but you amused me!. Thank you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Originally mayonnaise was made of egg yolk, vinegar and whipped while vegetable oil is drizzled!. The original mayonnaise would take approximately 15 minutes or so to make and your egg would have to be extremely fresh!.

It is, however, not white as you buy in bottles from the store!. It usually comes out golden!. The white ones you get from the bottle have a higher concentration of acids like vinegar, which whitens the eggs!.

There is also vegetarian mayonnaise that isn't made from any eggs and is made from soy beans!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with Johnflax!. Mayonaise is the dressing that you are all talking about that is usually made with egg yolks, oil and seasonings!. Egg mayonaise it the term gicen to chopped boiled eggs mixed with mayonaise and served with salad or as a sandwich filling!. Maybe it is different in other parts of the world, but that is what is generally called egg mayonaise in the UK!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Egg mayonnaise is hard boiled eggs, a few shreds of lettuce etc WITH mayonnaise!.

It's a good choice as a starter in a restaurant (they can't use leftovers) and it is quick and easy to make yourself!.

With some crusty bread and butter it makes a great light lunch!. Look at some recipes for variations!.

Hard boiled eggs and mayonnaise makes a good sandwich filler!. Slice the eggs or mash into the mayo: not too much mayo as it makes a soggy sandwich!.

Thanks for the question, I know what I'm having for lunch on Monday!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

thats so true, buttt, mayonaise is only the egg white, egg mayonaise is egg white, with the yolk added in after :)

+elane down there copied that from my own mastercheif website, haha!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because it means hard boiled egg mashed up with mayonnaise!.

If you buy a sandwich which says "egg mayonnaise" that's what it means!. It's not just a mayonnaise sandwich!. If it was, I'd take it back!Www@FoodAQ@Com

What they actually mean is adding egg to the mayonnaise to make sandwiches!. Adding prawns to mayonnaise becomes prawn mayonnaise and so on!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Perhaps 'mayoniase' describes the action upon the eggs, like egg 'boiled' egg 'poached' etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The term egg mayonnaise is what most of us would call egg salad - as in egg salad sandwiches - boiled egg mixed with mayonnaise, etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What is the problem!?

Tuna mayonnaise is tuna with mayonnaise
