Answers:
Generally, when referring to "net" carbohydrates, it means all carbohydrate except fiber, because we can’t digest the fiber!.

Available carbohydrate is the carbohydrate that can be digested!. Some people refer to it as “glycemic” or “usable” “net” carbohydrate, or “nutritive” carbohydrate!. All of these terms refer to the same thing!.

So, "net" carbs are the carbs your body digests and uses, and the dietary fiber carbs pass out without being digested!.

A lot of people say that carb counters should count only what they call net carbs!. In the example you gave, with 20g total, and 16g of that being fiber, that would leave 4g of usable (net) carbs!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, the way to calculate net carbs is!.!.!.

Total Carbs - Dietary Fiber = Net Carbs

therefore!.!.!.

20 - 16 = 4 Net Carbs

The reason is because the body cannot break down fiber and therefore not absorbed but is crucial and healthy for digestion!. That is why veggies and fruit are so important because of their high fiber content!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It would mean there are 4 net carbs (unless there is also carbs that have alcohol sugars!.)that's it!.

Net carbs are carbs that don't affect the level of blood sugar!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
