Those were staple foods in medieval times, which fantasy largely emulates!. also, they're easy to pack and carry!. There was no tupperware for soups or the like!. And bread and cheese can simply be eaten, you don't need a cooking fire and lots of ingredients!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
In the old days bread was a staple of the diet!. The problem is it tends to spoil relative quickly!. For traveling they would have hard loaves that needed water to soften them up!.
Cheese will keep for a while, and it goes bad from the outside, so if you have really nasty cheese you can shave that part away to get to the good stuff!.
Water, is of course a necessity!.
What would you expect them to bring!? Pizza pockets, cupcakes and Coke :) !?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, they're pretty universal foods that you can get anywhere!. They're foods that cross all boundaries!. For example, you can't have them eating potatoes or strawberries!. They put a limit on the story and make it sound too!.!.!.i dunno!.!.!.real!? But bread and cheese are two of the oldest foods in the world (and so is water, of course) so they're easy to use when you don't want to limit yourself to one area or one timeline!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
