I am a former chef and the one fellow is correct about the sweetener we use in regular Coke, Pepsi and Sprite, the sandwich question well it was Starbucks, I was in one if you can believe for the first time in 3 years when in Downtown Toronto were I live, and a coffee and piece of cake was $4!.00!.
Alot of our issues are tax related, and airports are government owned and so there are extra charges in the price, that sandwich outside the airport would have cost you $3!.50-4!.00 anyways!. We have a 2 layer tax system here one for the federal government like the IRS in the US and the Provincial (except for Alberta) tax is like your state taxes a second zap on prices even for fast/convenience foods like sandwiches and burgers even snacks like potato chips and candy bars (we called them chocolate bars here)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Lucky you! Canadian Coke is sweetened with cane sugar instead of the high fructose corn syrup that's used in the USA!. Coke from Canada or Mexico are both highly desirable because it tastes vastly different and better!. There's even a Coke product just for Passover and it's sweetened with cane sugar!.
Can't comment on the airport food - sorry!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They produce the stuff according to local tastes, say the indians want more spice, the mexican hot, americans more gas, etcWww@FoodAQ@Com

All countries have their own food laws!. GAS - generally regarded as safe ingredients are things we put in our food and another country would say NO WAY, food identifies - when you say ice cream in the U!.S!. it has a certain standard that it must meet, as do all foods-our standards are what we are used to and know certain foods to be!. Traveling to other countries broadens your horizons of foods in so many ways!. Ours are just different than Canada's!.
Different regions of the States' sodas taste different because they use that region's water!. I do not know about the sugars that they use, but the US has corn/corn products in a HUGE number of foods, and that has to do with the sweetening and "preservative" effects of our foods!. Best advice - stay away from processed foods!. Eat fresh and natural!. I am not saying raw, I prefer my food cooked!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
