Answers:
Shark fin soup is a popular soup, made only from shark fins!. Often, sharks are caught, de-finned (alive) and thrown back where they eventually die in the water!.

Shark meat is not illegal!. Shark meat is often called "poor man's swordfish", since it has a dense meaty texture similar to swordfish!. Mako shark meat is often passed off as swordfish, so if you see very cheaply priced swordfish, it could be shark!.

Shark steak refers to a cut of shark!. The word steak, in relation to fish, denotes a piece of fish cut perpendicularly to the body (as opposed to fillets, which are cut along the body on either side of the skeleton)!. Salmon, swordfish, and tuna are all commonly sold in steak forms, as they are hearty fish that are easy to grill in a thicker cut!. Delicate fishes like cod and sole are usually filleted instead!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Wow! McKensie are you twelve or never shopped for seafood!. You certainly are naive, fish that are not cut into filets and are cut across the fish are steaks!. Tuna is cut into steaks as well as shark and Ahi, salmon too!. Pork loin can be cut into steaks too!.
But no shark steaks is just the cut of the fish, usually a large cut of meat in the shape of a beef steak!. Shark is not illegal, you can buy it at the grocery store here in California!. also you can catch them (albeit small) off the coast of Monterey!.

I have had shark and it is fabulously good!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I live in fla and people here eat shark meat!.There are limits on certain fishes you are only allowed to catch so many of fish when you go out etc!.
I prefer gator meat but you need a permit to hunt for it!.lol!.You cant go out shooting the gaters even if they are ready to eat you!.!.!.
You should come to the festivals we have here in fla (mullet festival )where i live!.you can get octopus on stick gator ,,,whatever you want while you walk around!.
its shark meat steak name comes from how think the way it is when its cut!.
like ill order yellow fin they call it tuna steak!.Usually a thicker cut piece!.!.not flaky like a snapper!?more thick like a tuna!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't know where you live, but in So!. Cal!., it is legal!.I have eaten many threshers & mako sharks caught here in Marina Del Rey!. Good eatin!! And they are more of a "steak" than a filet!. BBQ them with white wine, garlic butter!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
