Answers:
Well!.!.!.its simply cause the doughnut was designed round!. Like an eclair, if made round would be called a profiterole and if fried we call it a beignet!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Beignets are square!

Beignets were brought to Louisiana by the Acadians!. These were fried fritters, sometimes filled with fruit!. Today, the beignet is a square piece of dough, fried and covered with powdered sugar!. They are served in orders of three!.

Because then when you did "doughnuts" in your car, like on ice or in the rain for fun, you would have to drive in a square instead of a constant turn - which is more fun! :)

p!.s!. - Rican - "dough" doesnt mean circle, lolWww@FoodAQ@Com

Beignets are square and they are essentially doughnuts!.
also, you have bars (some places call them long johns) and twist which are rectangular!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

that would be harder to make
and then they would take longer to make
and the obese people wouldnt have as many doughnuts to binge onWww@FoodAQ@Com

I guess that's why they called it dough nuts because the are a circle!. If they where going to be squared they will be call Square nuts!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
