Answers:
Yes, I was very fond of Monster Energy Drink as well (I called it "Slurm", from Futurama!)!. Then I investigated the ingredients, and was disappointed!. It's basically carbonated water with sugar and a list of popular ingredients, which all sounded exciting, until I did some homework on them!. I'll break down the big names for you, with a few cautionary items:

Carbonated water, also known as sparkling water, and seltzer, is plain water into which carbon dioxide gas has been dissolved, and is the major and defining component of most "soft drinks"!. There is currently some debate over a controversial study which says that long-term consumption of carbonated water can lead to weakening of human bones, but this has not been substantially proven!.

Citric acid is a weak organic acid!. It is a natural preservative and is also used to add an acidic, or sour, taste to foods and soft drinks!.

Taurine is a dietary essential nutrient in these individuals and is often added to many infant formulas as a measure of prudence!. There is also evidence that taurine is beneficial for adult human blood pressure and possibly, the alleviation of other cardiovascular ailments!.

Ginseng is promoted as an aphrodisiac and adaptogen (a product that increases the body's resistance to stress), although animal experiments to determine whether longevity and health were increased in the presence of stress gave negative results!. overconsumption of ginseng can lead to high blood pressure!. So, it's debatable whether ginseng is truly good for you!.

Carnitine is a quaternary ammonium compound biosynthesized from the amino acids lysine and methionine!. In living cells, it is required for the transport of fatty acids from the cytosol into the mitochondria during the breakdown of lipids (or fats) for the generation of metabolic energy!. The highest concentrations of carnitine are found in red meat and dairy products!. Other natural sources of carnitine include nuts and seeds!.

Other ingredients are sucrose (sugar), flucose, Guarana (which is a source of caffeine), and some other filler ingredients!.

So, I don't drink much Monster anymore!. My big drink these days is Green Tea!. It's cheaper, healthier, and actually can reduce the risk of cancer!

You can also add your own herbs to make different kinds of energy drinks!. Here's how I do it: use an ordinary drip coffee maker and put a coffee filter in place!. Then pour in a little bit of dried green tea!. Then add your favorite herb!. My big thing these days is a small amount of baked sesame seeds--you can get big jars of the stuff in the Oriental food section of a grocery store (both Nob Hill and PW have that)!. Then, start your coffee maker!. The hot water will drip down and make your pot of tea!.

I carry a thermos of the stuff with me to work!. It tastes great, and it's a lot cheaper than getting can after can of Monster!.

Enjoy!

Nothing healthy will give you instant energy like a stimulant!.

Try eating a strictly fruit breakfast of the same volume as normal and see the difference!. Not only will you have loads of energy but because your brain will have the proper nutrients, you will feel more motivated and upbeat!.

Mind you, one apple isn't going to do it!. I would suggest eating at least two peices of fruit such as a banana and an apple!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
