**Just eat the damn meat!!! just kidding don't hurt me :(**Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's casing!. Just like any ground meat, sandwich meat such as bologna, salami, pepperoni, etc is ground meat and spices!. They have to stuff it into some kind of casing to cook it, otherwise it will be a crumbled mess instead of a round shape!. The red film is just plastic casing!. Same thing as the sausage you get at the grocery store, or a chub pack of ground beef!. They just don't bother taking it off before they slice it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have no idea what you are talking about!. Bologna sometimes has a shiny red casing on it!. You can peel it off if you like!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Are you referring to pastrami!? It has a kind of sheen on it!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Is it like a casing or a wrapping of some sort!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
