Iodine is an essential substance the body needs to function properly, and salt as well is one of the minerals needed by the body!. So it was a marketing breakthrough to just sell salt with it being iodized!. But, as you may know, there are many people who cannot take iodine this way because dietary problems and they still require the salt!.
