Answers:
The ones you make at home are as healthy or as unhealthy as you yourself make them!.

I don't do smoothies much anymore, but I used to do them a lot!. Mine were super healthy and extremely yummy!. Things to avoid that are common smoothie ingredients: Ice cream or sherbert of any kind and raw eggs!.

My smoothies - I never measure anything for these, so adjust to taste!.

Into a blender put:

About 1-1/2 cups frozen fruit - using frozen fruit gives a great texture - buy bags of frozen fruit or freeze fresh fruit, summer is a great time for fresh peach smoothies!!
About 3/4 cup yogurt, I always use plain, (usually low or full fat, never nonfat because it doesn't keep me satisfied long enough and your body needs the fat to process some nutrients!.)
Add organic apple juice (other juices work, but I don't like citrus) to cover all but about the top 1" of the fruit/yogurt pile!.

You can blend it now or add any of the following flavors:
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Clove (just a tiny bit)
Vanilla

If you want to boost the fiber content you can add wheat germ!.
If you want to boost the protien content you can add protien powder!.

Usually with the apple juice you won't need any more sweetner!. If you end up using milk (changes the flavor profile dramatically) and you need a bit more sweetness I use a little real maple syrup or a little honey!.

This is often so thick you must blend, then stir, then blend!. Do this til it's smooth!. These smoothies are super thick and wonderful!

It depends on what you put in it!. I make smoothies all the time!. Heres a healthy smoothie I make!.

Put the following in a blender:
-8 frozen or fresh strawberries
-One Fiber One vanilla or strawberry yogurt contairner(i prefer vanilla)
-Half a banana
-A handful of blueberries
-About 1\4 cup water, apple juice, or orange juice, the amount depending how thick or thin you want the smoothie to be!.
-About 7 ice cubes, again, depending on how thick or thin you want it to be
-If you want, you can add a tbsp or two of your favorite type of sorbet, mine being lemon

After that, you mix that up in your blender and you have a really good smoothie! You can switch things up, like putting peach yogurt in or fresh mango, anything you prefer!. Its all really tasty and healthy!. Hope this helps!

Smoothies are very healthy!. They get a bad wrap because smoothies are often made with high fat yogurt and dairy or fruits and juices that have sugar added!. If you make smoothies at home, stick with non fat yogurt and dairy and use only fresh or no sugar added fruits and juices!. My favorite smoothies has vanilla non fat yogurt, frozen (no sugar added) strawberries and blueberries, 1 banana, pineapple juice(fresh, no sugar added)Www@FoodAQ@Com
