Can I use buttermilk that expired 9/2?!
It's an unopened carton and it expired 9/2!. Could I still use it or should I just throw it out!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
Since it has been refrigerated in an unopened carton, it should be fine!. Buttermilk has an amazing shelf life!.
If you are still in doubt, pour it into a glass to see if it has separated!. If it is very clumpy and separated, don't use it!. If it pours smoothly, it will be fine to use!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If it smells and tastes okay, I would use it!.!.!. it's only gone past the date by 2 days!.
I founds some info for you:
Buttermilk will last up to two weeks due to its high acidity level, although it is best the first week!. Once opened, it should be used within a week for drinking purposes, but it will be fine for baking often even after the expiration date!.
Always look for the latest expiration date on the carton, just as you would for any dairy product!. Keep buttermilk refrigerated, and don't let it sit out on the counter or the kitchen table for any length of time!.
Like milk, buttermilk can be frozen up to three months, but it is not recommended because it tends to separate!. If you freeze it, let it thaw in the refrigerator and be sure to mix it well to reincorporate the solids with the liquid!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

if it is unopened and has been refrigerated since you bought it it should be fine!. it's the 5th today (or the 4th depending on where you are)!. it should be fine within about 3 days of that date!. best thing to do would be to open it and have a sniff and maybe a tiny taste!. your sense of smell/taste will let you know right away if it has expired for real! if you cannot smell or taste offness, it's not off!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
You should be fine!. Usually the date is the sell by date not the use by date!. Just be sure to use it soon and if it smells "off" throw it away!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
if it was kept cold it could be just fine!.!.!. open it and pour a bit in a glass and smell it!. if it smells ok, take a tiny taste!. you will be able to tell instantly if it is bad!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
That's the sell by date, NOT the expiration date, so yes use it!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yes, the sell by date doesn't mean that you can't use the product after that date!.
