Answers:
It could be the type of potatoes you used, or their condition!. You want to avoid any that have a greenish cast to them after peeling, since that is solanine, and is slightly toxic and likely what caused the unpleasant taste!. It could also be pesticide residue from non organic potatoes, which intensifies when heated!. Try using organic russet potatoes next time!. Peel them, slice them thin, then soak them in cold, salted water for a few minutes, then dry them really well (pressing them between a couple of cotton dish towels works) This removes some of the starch which will make them bake up more crispy!. I brush mine with a little melted ghee before baking them in a very hot oven!. Good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I bake potato chips in the oven all the time!. I just slice them, rinse in cold water, drizzle a little vegetable oil over them, sprinkle with salt, and bake!.

If your's came out tasting like "poison" then either you had some bad potatoes (were they too brown, or too soft, or did they have roots growing out of them!?) or they were green!. Green potatoes can be toxic and will make you very sick, as another answer said!. Make sure you don't eat those!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

deep frying is the only way to get chips, you should also slice them on a mandolin!.

if your trying to approximate baked chips or pringles, read the ingredients, they are both made from more of a "potato pulp", it will probably take some trial and error, but try boiling your potatoes and putting them through a ricer!. press a sheet of riced potatoes flat in between two baking sheets sprayed with cooking spray, and bake for about an hour @ 225 (to dry them out), then bake @ 400 for 15 minutes to crisp them up!.!.!.ive never done this, but it sounds about right!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You are supposed to deep fry them!. Fry them in a combo of peanut and vegetable oil!. Slice the potatoes thin ( on a mandolin!.!.get one in a cooking store) salt them lightly!. heat your oil to 375 degrees!. Make sure you use enough oil ( half a pot deep of oil) to thoroughly coat the potatoes!. Cook them until they just get crispy in the oil!. Remove them and drain them on a paper towel!. Salt them again!.
You can also use this method for sliced carrots, beets, yams, etc!.!.!. Once they are fried, they are all very tasty! You can do this and they will be very yummy! Good Luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

FRESH BAKED POTATO CHIPS-We do it in the oven all the time!.

Wash potatoes well!. Cut into 1/4 inch slices!. Spray baking tray with conola oil!.

PS!. DON 'T USE GREEN POTOTOES! GREEN POTATO ARE TOXIC!

i have homemade potatoes all the time, they taste fine!Www@FoodAQ@Com

You should have deep fried them!. If you got even close to the texture of potato chips you probably just dehydrated potato slices!. That's why it tasted terrible!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because home made chips doesn't contains all the extra
preservatives found in store bought brands!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's better if you slice potatoes really thin, then fry them in a deep fryer, set them on paper towels, then add salt! Yum!.!. But not healthy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

in the oven!? I think they are usually deep fried in cooking oil, not made in the ovenWww@FoodAQ@Com

homemade potato chips are suppose to be fried!.
