I am "unwaged" and my partner is on a small pension, so we do not buy either of the items you mention!.!.!. In the case of breakfast cereals, we stick to porridge oats!. You can buy POUNDS of oats for £6! They are also much more filling and they "stand by" you longer!. No need to snack before lunch time after a bowl of porridge!.!.!. Add some raisins or grated apple for Sunday specials! LOL!

We avoid supermarkets as much as possible, preferring to buy at the weekly market!. At the end of the day, they also reduce prices further and the lack of useless/wasteful packaging and wrapping is heaven! It will save us extra in the future, when our local council starts charging extra for rubbish collection!.

We bake our own bread, scones, cakes, etc!. so the heat from the oven is a bonus through "double use"!. Not only does everything taste better, we know what is in it and can reduce fats, salts, sugar, etc!. to taste!. They are also (on the whole) not only more wholesome and tasty, but better fillers too!. Much cheaper compared to bought stuff!.!.!.

I know working folk do not feel they have the leisure/time to bake and cook from scratch, but if you spend less time in supermarkets and just buy in what you need from local high street/corner/ethnic shops it really is amazing how much pleasure it can give!.!.!. It also makes shopping a more sociable pleasure rather than a boring necessity!

Meals which are cooked for everyone also help families find their way back to being a family around the table!.!.!. Especially usefull with teens around! Communal living/eating rather than the grazing culture which is energy intensive and costs far more than anyone cares to think about!.!.!. If you want to save money on food, take a close look at what you are eating over a week or two, but take a closer look at the amount of electricity/gas needed!. You may find it is not the food but your cooking which needs an economy drive! Use the oven less and the microwave more!

Sorry, it is not what you asked! Still it is my "take" on saving money on food!! YMMV! LOL!Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's just occurred to me we could all save a fortune by inviting ourselves round to friends for dinner and not inviting them in turn!. Seriously though, I haven't noticed supermarket offers but often the reduced food because it's near it's sell by date can be frozen!. There's something seriously messed up with our Government when working people are struggling to afford even the basic comforts of heat and food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

quorn fillets on offer half price in tesco for all you veggies! £1!.09Www@FoodAQ@Com
